ROOM PARENT DUTIES

A room parent acts as a the liaison between the PTO board, the teachers and the parents in order to facilitate communication and ensure activities and events are organized and according to schedule. 

 

Each classroom needs a Room Parent, and each Room Parent will become an important member of our community.

Some of the functions through the school year include the following:

 

Helps the PTO collecting the PTO dues. 

Collects Classroom donations - specially at the beginning of the year.

Creates a e-mailing list of the parents assigned to their classroom.

Keeps accounting Records of the Classroom Donations which are not the PTO dues.

Helps to coordinate specific class events.

Purchases and does the Door-decor during teacher appreciation week

Buys and delivers teacher gifts.

Communicates with the parents about expenses.

Recruits other parent volunteers. 

Delegates tasks to other parents.

Makes sure kids get copies/documents/forms from the PTO inside their folders every week. 

Attends and helps with school-wide activities. 

 

 

 

CLASSROOM DONATIONS

 

To alleviate the PTO expenses - which funds are used on technology, logistics and education; 

ROOM PARENTS are in charge of celebrating the classroom community.

Each Room Parent is in charge of Collecting Donations and celebrating the following events:

 

*End of the year teacher's Present* 

*Door-Decor during Teacher Appreciation week*

** Participating on these events is optional **

** Parents can always purchase separate presents for the teachers and staff **

HOW TO START

  • Schedule a meeting with your teacher at the beginning of the school year

  • Ask for you teacher's Birthday and favorite things 

  • Set a time - on Thursday or Friday - to do the classroom folders 

  • Obtain the classroom's email list or ask parent for the e-mails: Print, share and collect the PTOEmailCommunication form.

  • Parents who do not wish to be contacted by the PTO can be contacted by the teacher directly. 

  • Email the class in order to introduce yourself - the welcome letter will be provided by the PTO.

  • Build a calendar that helps you to stay on track.

  • Ask your teacher what he/she needs from you

  • Be inclusive of all families

  • Communicate with parents 

  • Keep your parents updated on class activities, needs and expenses 

  • Do collect money and keep record of the expenses 

  • Email parents. Share photos of the presents

  • Do not use your role as a room parent to ask the teacher for special favors

  • Do not visit the classroom unexpectedly 

  • Do not give advice to the teacher about academics
